Poetry. Community. Jotería. The Central Library’s Latino Collection & Resource Center is bringing together four local queer Latine authors for a Pride Month panel that goes beyond the page.
Barbie Hurtado — musician, poet, artivist, and cofounder of Son Queers (a queer and trans son jarocho collective) — leads the conversation. Joining them on the panel:
- Cloud Cardona (DJ Mexistentialism) — author of What Remains and the past is a jean jacket, winner of the Naomi Shihab Nye First Book of Poetry Award
- Violeta Garza — queer multilingual poet and performance doula, author of the bilingual collection BRAVA (First Matter Press), a Top Ten Debut Latine Authors of 2025
- Jonathan Fletcher — Drinking Gourd Chapbook Poetry Prize winner, Zoeglossia Fellow, author of This is My Body (2025), Pushcart and Best of the Net nominee
The panel digs into creative process, key influences, and what it’s actually like to publish as a queer Latine voice in a predominantly white literary industry. Authors read from their work, followed by a book signing and sales.
